Latest election results indicate that Folsom City Councilwoman and restaurant owner Rosario Rodriguez extended her lead enough to ensure she would secure an outright win without requiring a runoff in the race to replace retiring Supervisor Sue Frost. It will be the first time a non-incumbent has won in the primary since Roger Niello won his race to replace Supervisor Dave Cox in the June Primary almost a quarter-century ago.
Rodriguez has 51% of the vote and, if she maintains that lead, she will win the seat and avoid a November runoff.
Folsom City Councilwoman Rosario Rodriguez was still in the lead in the three-way race for a seat on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors as more returns were released Tuesday afternoon, one week after primary Election Day. Rodriguez has 51% of the vote and, if she maintains that lead, she will win the seat and avoid a November runoff. The outgoing supervisor, Sue Frost, said in July that she would not run for reelection for the 4th Supervisorial District. The boomerang-shaped district includes parts or all of Citrus Heights, Folsom, Orangevale, Antelope, Rio Linda, Elverta, Gold River, Rancho Murieta, North Highlands, Carmichael, Foothill Farms and Fair Oaks.
Rodriguez, a conservative, was endorsed by Frost when the supervisor announced that she would step down from her seat. Rodriguez ran against political newcomer and registered Democrat Braden Murphy and the conservative Citrus Heights Mayor Bret Daniels. Daniels had 27% of the vote when the county released a new round of results Tuesday, while Murphy had 22%.
RODRIGUEZ NOW AT 50.54% FOR DISTRICT 4 SUPERVISOR SEAT
Updated counts now show Rodriguez ahead of Citrus Heights Mayor Bret Daniels and fellow Folsom resident Braden Murphy. In this race, the top two vote earners will face off in November unless a candidate takes 50% of the vote “plus one” in the primary.
Rodriguez moved to the 50.54% mark, with an updated vote count of 17,828. Daniels now sits at 27.84% with 9,823 votes being reported. Murphy has garnered 7,631 votes so far, putting him at the 21.63% mark in the race. As of Friday afternoon, Sacramento County elections overall were reporting voter turnout at 20.78%, with 180,496 ballots counted so far in a county that has 868,750 registered voters to date.

CITRUS HEIGHTS—Folsom Councilman Rosario Rodriguez, the leading candidate to replace Supervisor Sue Frost, will host a final campaign event with supporters for a Ballot Party and Petition Gathering Rally in Citrus Heights on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 am.
“My team has worked so hard,” stated Rosario, “We want to finish strong with a big push.”

Mayor works to connect with the community one resident at a time
Since stepping into her role as mayor of Folsom, Rosario Rodriguez has used her weekly office hours to help the community one resident at a time.
Last week, Rodriguez experienced the fruits of her work while meeting with a community member at a bus stop.
In early February, local resident Charles Bellairs visited the mayor’s office hours concerned because Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) removed a bus stop in front of the Sutter Health building on East Bidwell. That left him walking half a mile to get to the doctor’s office, which would prove difficult in extreme heat or rain.
Rodriguez said she escalated his concern to City Manager Elaine Andersen, who then contacted Henry Li, RT general manager and CEO. Two days later, RT replaced the bus stop at 2575 East Bidwell.
Bellairs contacted Rodriguez last week to tell her he was using the bus stop, so she met up with him at the stop.
“We hear so much about what goes wrong with government and rarely hear about the things that work out well,” Rodriguez said.
Connecting residents with the right officials and listening to residents speak about their concerns has been ongoing work for Rodriguez twice a week since January.

Rosario’s strength is giving back to her community, which resulted in the 2018 District 6 Woman of the Year award by the Office of Assemblyman Kevin Kiley.
She has demonstrated an exemplary aptitude to run a business and give back to the community. Rosario currently serves as a Rotarian, a Commissioner for the Historic District Commission, Ambassador and Board Member for the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and Board Member for the Twin Lakes Food Bank.
Mayor Rodriguez cites bold vision for 2023
Shining with community pride in a vivid red dress on the stage of Lakeside Church, Folsom Mayor Rosario Rodriguez delivered the 2023 State of the City address to a capacity- filled auditorium last Thursday. The event marked the first address for Rodriguez; the local businesswoman was named mayor in December after previously serving as vice- mayor.
“I truly enjoyed delivering the State of the City. It was so awesome looking out at the audience and seeing so many familiar faces that I’ve interacted with over the past 15 years,” said Rodriguez. “We have such a wonderful city and I’m excited to serve as mayor.”

Rodriguez focused on the success of the year gone by as well as the bold vision ahead, all while recalling a special time after she opened her business, Sutter Street Taqueria, and learned what the Folsom community was truly all about.“I had taken a leap of faith and traded my six-figure healthcare job to pursue my dream of owning a taqueria in Historic Folsom,” said Rodriguez.
“As a new small-business owner, I worked dual jobs for a few months until the demand was too great. I was working around the clock 24-7, while also caring for my now late husband, Paul, during his aggressive chemotherapy treatments. It became clear to those closest to me that I was in high gear for a prolonged period.”
New Folsom mayor delivers 2023 State of the City Address
FOLSOM, Calif. — Newly elected Folsom Mayor Rosario Rodriguez delivered the State of the City Address on Jan. 26 during an event hosted by the Folsom Chamber of Commerce.
Rodriguez was elected to the City Council in 2020 after serving on the Historic District Commission for three years. She previously served as a board member for the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, the Twin Lakes Food Bank and the Folsom Economic Development Corporation, according to city of Folsom’s website.
In the speech, she reviewed recent accomplishments and shared upcoming goals for the year ahead.
